The Centre provides a useful platform for knowledge sharing and collaborative research between the Faculty members and the Iron and Steel related industry. The present areas of research and development are focused on: new and cheap fluxes for removing deleterious impurities such as S and P from liquid steel as well as optimizing new fluxes for casting new and advanced steel grades, recycling, sustainable steelmaking, utilization of biomass, biochar, plastic wastes as alternative fuel and carbon source in iron making, Electrolytic iron making, alternative steel and iron making processes, utilization of mining and steel making wastes to generate clean energy, understanding the deformation and transformation behaviour in advanced high strength steels, HSLA steels, thermomechanical processing, microstructure and texture engineering, hydrogen embrittlement, modelling work using a combination of computational thermodynamics, kinetics and fluid dynamics.
